Taiwan was our transfer destination on the Vienna-Sydney route, we spent less than 24 hours in Taiwan and it was sincerely worth it.

We arrived in Taipei (capital of Taiwan) at 6 am, which was a great time because we had pretty much whole day for exploring the city. After a 6-hour flight, we headed straight from the airport to the hostel, which we didn´t book we went totally random and selected according to reviews. We wanted to have a few hours of sleep, because we didn’t sleep much on the plane and we didn’t want to fight with jetlag after arriving in Sydney.

Chceli sme si dať pár hodín spánku, kedže v lietadle sme toho moc nenaspali a nechceli sme po príchode do Sydney bojovať s veľkým jetlagom.

We arrived at the first hostel that had the reception closed and they were opening at 10 am, which in our case we couldn´t affrod because at that time we wanted to be in the city exploring Taiwan. This hostel in reality did not even look according to the Internet reviews so Thank God that the reception was closed and we moved to the hostel number two.

About a few minutes later until we figured out where to go because we had no internet so we couldn’t use any google maps and everything was in Chinese, one guy saw us how we are struggling So he was so nice and showed us the way. I note that we were circling around the hostel the whole time!!! Finally we booked and we went to sleep for 4 hours to have some energy for the rest of the day.

The first thing when we woke up was food we wanted something traditional. Lost in the streets of the city, we came across a completely unattractive restaurant, I wouldn´t call it a restaurant but rather a dining room where the cooks were giving you the food you wanted. There was a big queue outside, so our theory was that they had to have good food. What was true food was really good.

After a good lunch, we wanted to see the third tallest building in the world, Taipei 101, which was built in 2004 and held the tallest building in the world until it was overtaken by Dubai with Burj Khalifa.

After the tour we ran for a quick coffee and our next exploring the city we planned on our way because the time pushed us and we wanted to make the most of it. The second stop was Yue Lao at Longshan Temple, the main attraction for many visitors is Yue Lao, the Chinese god of marriage and love. According to the legend, Yue Lao plays matchmaker by attaching a red string of fate between unmarried men and women who are predestined to be together. So sad that I learned about this legend only now. Right across the street, the Huaxi Street night market began where you could buy everything, but most of the stalls were with food.

The last hours before departure we spent on Liberty Square, also known as Freedom Square, which was quite breathtaking with massive size and architecture. It is a place where various cultural events are organized, there is a national theater and a concert hall. As we sat on the square, the music played everywhere and we couldn’t be happier than we had this day. As a conclusion of our short but more intense trip it could not end even better. There is certainly more to see in Taipei and it is definitely a beautiful country that is worth it.
